Intro of waiting list for Sat junior swim session 'improvers'

To all members and in particular our lovely volunteers who do registration at sessions

Introduction of a waiting list for ‘improvers’ group at junior swim session

We are now fortunate to have the problem of having more swimmers than we can teach in the ‘improvers’ lanes at the junior session. We have 3 junior groups, improvers, intermediate and advanced. Rather than take in more and more swimmers and not be able to teach them properly so that they progress we have decided to start up a waiting list. As swimmers move up into the intermediate lanes and make room in the beginners group we will take children off the waiting list. While they are on the waiting list junior members will be offered a place at BMSS Bubbles swim school at a discounted rate. Bubbles swim school is held at Ladybridge Pool on Saturdays 9.30 to 1.30 and is led by Tom McManus the deputy head coach at Bolton Metro Swim Squad. They have various groups from non-swimmers up to ASA level 10. The normal price at Bubbles is £40 for a course of 10 lessons.  For Bolton Tri Club members it will be £32 for 10 lessons and if the member is already paying for their Tri Club training sessions using our direct debit scheme then we will re-imburse them a further £12 on production of their Bubbles receipt making it only £2 a lesson. They can start at any time. See their website http://www.bmssbubbles.co.uk/. Please note that our minimum age for junior membership is 7 and this will still apply.

New junior swimmer who can already meet the standard for progression into the intermediate group or advanced group can start straight away as we can cater for more swimmers in these lanes at the moment. The entry requirement for the intermediate group is to be able to swim 150m front crawl in 3:30 or less and 50 back stroke in 1:20 or less.

From  this Saturday children wanting to come to the swim session for the first time should be advised that there is a waiting list for the beginners group and they will be assessed by one of the coaches to see which group they are suitable for. Just introduce them or their parent to one of the coaching team.

A word of advice

Although we call it the ‘improvers  group’ this does not mean it is a group for non-swimmers. It is a group for those who want to begin to do front crawl (and the other strokes) with the correct technique. It is a lane swim and younger children who still need to learn basic strokes are likely  to achieve quicker and better results by attending  sessions held in a teaching pool or sessions where they swim widths. Our coaches are trained to coach swimming not to teach swimming from scratch.

calling all juniors: NW club champs 21st September

The North West Regional Junior Triathlon Club Championships at Blackpool on 21st September is fast approaching. This is a normal junior triathlon and part of the NW junior series but the first two boys and the first two girls in the Tristart, T1, T2, T3 and Youth standard distance races score points for the club. Last year our boys team came 4th and the girls came 7th. We hope to do just as well if not better this year.

Entries will open on 20th August and close on 15th September via Entry Central. A race information pack with times for each age group race can be accessed via http://www.triathlonengland.org/north-west/juniors/juniors . The link for Entry Central will also appear here in due course. When entering please make sure you enter the club name 'Bolton Triathlon Club' in full. .

On race day results should be available from the chip timing system after each age group has raced. These draft results will be posted in the registration area so teams will have an idea on how they are doing during the day. The final scores will be calculated in the evening and communicated to all clubs the next day.

The winning teams will have their trophies engraved and they will be formally presented to the winning teams at the North West Presentation Evening on 15th November 2014 at the Lancashire Manor
Hotel, Pimbo.

The event is organised jointly by all the NW clubs so we do need to provide some volunteers from our club to help on the day. Let Stuart Carter know if you can help for all or part of the event.

Neil Raby (My Ironman experience 2014)

I have wanted to take part in an Ironman triathlon since seeing it in Bolton in2009 it was then I decided to start my journey into triathlon (5 years ago). I have enjoyed the whole 5 year journey that at times has been hard but always enjoyable. I have met some incredible people along the way and I am part of an incredible triathlon club (Bolton tri-club) who have supported me for the last 3 years to achieve my goal.

The training for the Ironman has been tough but ultimately enjoyable and rewarding with the race itself being something I will never forget, from the registration on Thursday to crossing the finishing line on Sunday evening 14 hours after starting the swim at Pennington flash.

To see all the spectators at the swim and lining the bike route to the incredible crowds all along the run course who gave me an incredible boost and made me feel proud to part of the Bolton family, I will be honest the run part of the race was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but the feeling when finally getting the last lap arm band was amazing. Reaching the finishing chute and realising I am going to run down that red carpet to the finish was the most uplifting 30 sec anybody could experience. When I crossed the finishing line and heard those words “Neil you are an Ironman” I knew that in front of all my family and friends I had achieved the goal I set out to do 5 years ago.

(oh and yes I have signed up to do it all again in 2015)

Neil.

No swim at Smithills for the next 3 weeks

Swim at Smithills is not taking place for the next 3 weeks and it will start up again on 27th August. A suitable coach to replace Tom McManus is being sought. Tom has moved south to take up another job.

For these three weeks, starting tonight, you can go to the triclub session which is on 7-8pm at ladybridge pool. Full details including map at www.boltontri.com. (Ignore the bit about swimmer competence: there will be coaches available for all standards for the next three weeks )

Sorry for any inconvenience but due to miscommunication /misunderstanding the closure has only just come to light.
